HOW TRASHNET WORKS?

Waste Collectors

Waste collectors are an integral part of the waste management chain. These collectors hold the responsibility for the proper collection & segregation of materials from bulk trash. These include NGOs working with marginalized communities, Material recovery facilities, and municipalities.

On Trashnet, the process of EPR credit is initiated by the waste collectors.

Waste Recyclers

Plastic Waste Recyclers (PWRs) are the core stakeholders as they process the collected material and ensure proper reuse of the material.

In the current EPR infrastructure, PWRs have the EPR authorization to generate certificates of recycling for the processed materials.

In a decentralized system such as Trashnet, recyclers' input and output is verified by external parties which drastically reduces the chance of tampering with data and fake certificate creation.

Manufacturers

Manufacturers are the entities that use recycled plastic as raw material or fuel for production. For non-recyclable materials, the collected waste is sent directly to manufacturers.

To verify proper collection & recycling, manufacturers are asked to acknowledge the receiving of raw materials from the recycler/ collector.

Brand Owners & Importers

Extended Producer Responsibility guidelines hold the PIBOs liable for the lapse in the recycling system.

Such cases can be completely avoided with Trashnet. Every credit will be backed by legible data points and chances of data manipulation are reduced drastically with the multi-stakeholder consensus mechanism.

Furthermore, for every verified credit, the money paid by the brand is distributed in an equitable manner with all transactions being recorded on the blockchain platform.

Future of plastic is circular.
